Baby Lobster Programme Launched

Lobster Hatchery Collaboration

The Headland Launches Partnership with National Lobster Hatchery

As part of The Headland's ongoing commitment to sustainability, we have launched a new initiative that allows guests to make a meaningful contribution to marine conservation.

As part of the initiative with the Padstow-based charity, every guest that chooses to forgo a room service will have a baby lobster released into the ocean on their behalf.

This choice helps protect Cornwall’s marine biodiversity and supports the long-term sustainability of the region’s fishing industry.

The initiative aligns with The Headland’s commitment to responsible tourism, allowing visitors to play an active role in protecting Cornwall’s coastal ecosystem.

“In the wild, only one in 20,000 lobsters survives to adulthood’’ said Bethany Branigan, Sustainability Lead at The Headland.

“Thanks to the Hatchery’s work, this survival rate increases dramatically—to one in 20. By participating, our guests are making a real and measurable impact on ocean conservation.”

The National Lobster Hatchery has long been dedicated to the preservation of the European lobster. From egg to adolescence, these lobsters are meticulously cared for, ensuring they have the best start in life.

The hatchery's program is designed to bolster the lobster population, which has faced challenges due to overfishing and environmental changes.

Nicola O'Donnell, Chief Operating Officer of The National Lobster Hatchery, added: "A collaboration raising awareness of simple actions that make a positive impact both on land and at sea.

The National Lobster Hatchery is delighted and very grateful to be teaming up with The Headland on its brand new initiative and together we look forward to increasing our conservation efforts here in Cornwall."
