The Headland Earth Day Beach Clean
Earth Day is a reminder of our collective responsibility to protect and preserve our planet's precious resources. At The Headland we believe in not just celebrating Earth Day, but taking concrete actions to make a difference. This year, our Sustainability Coordinator rallied our team for a beach clean-up at the stunning Fistral Beach on our doorstep.
On the crisp morning of Earth Day, the teamdonned their gloves and grabbed their rubbish bags, ready to tackle the task of cleaning up Fistral Beach alongside members of Newquay Marine Group.
As we walked along chatting we encountered a wide array of debris, from plastic bottles and wrappers to discarded barbed wire, however the main contributor to litter on Fistral Beach was cigarette butts!
By the end of the beach clean we had 2 full black liners of trash removed from Fistral Beach, restoring its natural beauty and safeguarding the marine ecosystem. Our Earth Day beach clean-up was a powerful reminder of the difference we can make when we come together with a shared purpose and determination.
During the beach clean, we were confronted with the reality of plastic pollution. Plastic bottles and bags littered the shoreline, each item representing a lasting threat to the environment. It's startling to consider that while a plastic bottle may only serve its purpose for a brief moment, it takes approximately 450 years for it to decompose in the environment.
At The Headland Hotel, our commitment to environmental action is consistent, and we will continue to seek out opportunities to make a positive impact on our planet. We invite you to join us in this journey, and together, we can create a brighter, cleaner future for generations to come.
