Our Power, Our Planet
Earth Day 2025
April 22nd 2025
Earth Day is an annual event that takes place on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection.
This year’s theme, ‘Our Power, Our Planet’, highlights the urgent need for a global shift towards renewable energy.
At The Headland, we’re dedicated to making smarter energy choices to reduce our environmental footprint with the ultimate aim of being powered by renewable energy.
How we’re making a difference:
We’ve switched our lightbulbs to LED, which consume significantly less energy than traditional lighting. This simple but impactful change played a big role in helping us reduce our energy consumption by 23% from 2023 to 2024. We also encourage natural lighting wherever possible, further cutting our energy use.
Our building is equipped with a Combined Heat and Power (CHP) system, which takes energy efficiency to the next level. CHP systems capture and repurpose the heat that would otherwise be wasted during electricity generation. This clever process makes CHP 20% more efficient than traditional gas boilers, helping us use energy more wisely.
To reduce the energy required to heat water, we’ve invested in OH4 technology. This innovative system retains heat for longer, meaning we need less energy to keep our hot water at the right temperature. Since its installation, we’ve seen hot water energy savings of over 20%.
We’re proud to offer four electric vehicle charging points on-site, encouraging guests and visitors to embrace low-emission travel.
Looking Ahead
Our journey towards sustainability is ongoing. While we’re proud of the progress we’ve made, we know there’s more to do. We’re actively exploring renewable energy options and new ways to further reduce our environmental impact.
By making smarter energy choices today, we’re helping to build a cleaner, greener future for Cornwall and beyond.
